Ms. Brown’s Animal Care class will have a fundraiser pizza/ bake sale during Open House – make sure to get delicious baked items, and help FAAS at the same time!

8th Grade Dance

Congratulations to our 8th Graders!  Our Senior Beavers graduate in June and we want them to celebrate their middle school accomplishments. The 8th Grade Dance will be on Friday, May 31, 2019, 7:00-9:00 pm.  Let’s send them off to high school with a fabulous night!  We need help from the wonderful Wood community with set-up & clean-up, donations of finger foods, desserts & beverages, and chaperoning.  Sign-up here!

Otis Drive Safety Project - Transportation Commission Meeting

Otis Drive is on the agenda of the Transportation Commission meeting this Wednesday, May 22 at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers (3rd floor) at Alameda City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Ave. Community members – including kids – are encouraged to attend and speak about about what these changes would mean to them. (This project will also be on the City Council agenda for Tuesday, June 4 at 7 p.m.)

City staff and the consultant team are recommending approval of a design concept, which will allow for the low-cost improvements to be constructed next year.  The recommended concept for the one-mile study area segment of Otis Drive between Westline Drive and Willow Street is expected to reduce speeds and improve safety for all street users including people who walk, bike, take the bus and drive.

You can read all about it here or see an outline plan here. If you want to comment but are unable to attend the meeting, please email

WMS Donors Choose Project

Ms. Luong has a Donors Choose project to buy robotic kits for her Life Skills class. With the help of these materials, students can see the practical applications of coding/robotics and gain skills in this ever-changing technological world. Read all about it here.

Eco Swap, May 24

CASA Youth, led by high school students of Alameda, will be holding an Eco Swap this Friday, May 24 at Jackson Park from 3-5 pm! Drop off all your gently used items at designated collection bins, May 20-22, at Alameda High, Wood Middle, Lincoln Middle, and ACLC schools. Acceptable items include but are not limited to clothes, books, school supplies, home decor, etc. Then, come out to the Eco Swap and get free second hand items! More information here.
Reusing and recycling these items rather than throwing them out and buying new ones will largely reduce our carbon emissions. It’s one of our only options to steer our future towards a sustainable and healthy environment. See you at the Eco Swap!

"The Lion King" Coming Soon!

Mr. Moreno’s Drama students will take to the stage in “The Lion King” on Wednesday, May 29 & Thursday, May 30, 7:00 pm in the MPR. Don’t miss it!
